Britain used to own Nigeria as a colony. They controlled the natural resources and the trade
of Nigeria. The Igbo people were rewarded by the British for their willingness to learn English and attend British schools.
British colonialism in Nigeria caused many problems, including the fact that Nigeria did not have control over its own natural
resources, some ethnic groups had more power than others, and most importantly, ethnic violence.
